About

Earthaven Ecovillage is an off-grid intentional community founded in 1994 on 329 forested, mountainous acres in western North Carolina, near Black Mountain and about 50 minutes from Asheville. It is home to roughly 75 adults and 25 children across about 12 residential neighborhoods. The community runs on renewable energy (solar and microhydro), uses constructed wetlands for water management, and is built with permaculture site plans and natural-building methods; common land is held by a homeowners association, with neighborhoods organized as housing cooperatives.
