Sangre de Cristo Ranches is a large off-grid rural-lot subdivision in Costilla County, Colorado, set against the eastern slopes of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains just south and east of Fort Garland in the San Luis Valley. Established on roughly 66,000 acres and divided into approximately 7,740 mostly off-grid lots (2–20 acres), it is a high-altitude (around 8,000 ft), county-road-served community where solar and well/septic are the norm. The original developer became defunct in 2009; the voluntary nonprofit SCRO represents owners.
