Rural Subdivision

About

California Valley is the classic over-platted off-grid subdivision of the Carrizo Plain in eastern San Luis Obispo County, California, subdivided in 1960 by developers who anticipated State Water Project deliveries that never came. The roughly 24,083-acre zoned area was cut into more than 7,200 2.5-acre lots, and only about 500 residents live there today. Power is solar or generator, water comes from 200-to-350-foot wells or is hauled, sewage is septic, and most named roads are graded dirt maintained by the California Valley Community Services District.
