About

Christmas Valley is an unincorporated high-desert community in Lake County, Oregon, at about 4,321 feet elevation in the Christmas Lake Valley. It originated in 1961 when developer M. Penn Phillips laid out a townsite and marketed scattered parcels to retirees and would-be farmers; the development largely failed, leaving widely dispersed lots stretching for miles along Christmas Valley–Wagontire Road. The arid climate, abundant sun, and successful well-drilling on surrounding lots make solar, well, and septic off-grid living common.
