Emerald Earth Sanctuary

Land Cooperative

About

Emerald Earth Sanctuary stewards 189 acres of redwoods and oak woodland in rural Mendocino County near Boonville. The community is off grid, running on solar and hydro electricity with satellite internet, and the land is held in trust by a nonprofit dedicated to land stewardship and education. Planning began in 1989 and the first residents moved onto the land in 1994. Current work centers on expanding greywater and rainwater catchment, preparing for prescribed burns for fire safety and forest health, and growing as much food on site as the land will carry.
