About

Lama Foundation is a spiritual community, educational facility and retreat center on about 105 acres adjoining the Carson National Forest, seventeen miles north of Taos at 8,600 feet in the Sangre de Cristo Mountains. The whole community is off grid: electricity comes from photovoltaic panels, sanitation from composting toilets, heat from wood, and water from a spring on the land supplemented by rainwater catchment. It was founded in 1967, which makes it one of the longest running communities of its kind in the Southwest. Life here is rustic by design and the climate is high, dry and cold.
