Off-Grid Community

About

Wild Horse Mesa (also known as San Pedro Mesa) is an off-grid rural-lot subdivision in Costilla County, Colorado, in the San Luis Valley about 12 miles south of San Luis. Set among pinon-juniper forest, rolling hills, and meadows, it is named for the bands of wild horses that roam the area. Off-grid living is standard here (solar, septic, and a cistern), with water hauling available from the Wild Horse Mesa Community Center, since wells are cost-prohibitive at this elevation.
