About

Red Earth Farms is a community land trust of 76 acres in the rolling hills of northeast Missouri, founded in 2005 and incorporated as a trust with its own bylaws in 2007. Households hold 99 year leases that carry rights close to ownership, which is how the community keeps entry affordable. Between a third and two thirds of its energy is produced on site from wind and photovoltaic solar. There is no common house and no shared building, a deliberate choice that leaves each homestead autonomous, and six ponds and a creek run through the land.
