Rural Subdivision

About

Rio del Oro is a sprawling high-desert subdivision east of Belen and Los Lunas in Valencia County, New Mexico, covering roughly 47,000 acres from the Rio Grande corridor east toward the Manzano Mountains. It is composed almost entirely of quarter-acre and three-quarter-acre platted parcels, making it one of the largest residential subdivisions in the county. There is no public water or phone service on most lots, so owners drill wells or use holding tanks and septic; county rules require at least 0.75 acres (or three contiguous quarter-acre lots) to build.
