Rio Rancho Estates is an unincorporated census-designated place and large subdivision in Sandoval County, New Mexico, covering 68.35 square miles at about 6,942 feet elevation, roughly 18 miles north-northwest of Albuquerque and bordering the city of Rio Rancho. Platted by AMREP, much of it remains improvement-pending land sold as raw one-acre parcels with no paved roads, water, sewer, gas, or mail delivery, making it a de facto off-grid area requiring well, septic, and solar. The 2020 population was 1,801.
