Off-Grid Community

About

Polebridge sits on the North Fork of the Flathead River, one mile from the northwest entrance of Glacier National Park and 22 miles south of the Canadian border. The settlement runs entirely off the grid and has moved from diesel generators to an array of 87 solar panels. There is no cell service and no internet. The way in is a rough gravel road roughly 35 miles from Columbia Falls. The 2020 census counted 14 residents, a number that climbs toward 100 in summer and falls to single digits in winter.
