About this plan
What the 12×16 Hunting Cabin is for.
The 12×16 is the classic camp size for a reason: it is big enough for a stove, a table, and bunks on the main floor. The 6-foot-deep loft runs the full length of the back wall, which leaves the front half of the room, where the door is, open to the roof.
The chimney is drawn in so the framing and roofing account for it. Plan the stove location before you frame, because the clearances around a wood stove eat more floor than people expect in a room this size.
Three windows, one on each side wall and one beside the door, let you see out in three directions from inside, which is most of what a camp cabin is for.
Good for
- A hunting or fishing camp
- Sleeping four with the loft in use
- A wood-heated cabin that stays usable in cold months
