About this plan
What the 8×24 Tiny House is for.
Most tiny house floor plans put the bed in a loft, which means a ladder every night. This one keeps everything on one floor: a 6-by-7-foot bedroom at one end with a window on each of its three outside walls, a 5-by-7-foot bath at the other, and a 10-foot kitchen and living room between them with the front door in the middle.
Eight feet is just under the 8.5-foot width a trailer can travel on U.S. highways without a wide-load permit, which is why tiny houses are this narrow. This plan sits on treated skids rather than a trailer, so it can be dragged into place and re-leveled, but it is not drawn as a road-going build.
The 2/12 shed roof sheds water toward the back and leaves the front wall tallest, where the door and the biggest window are. The International Residential Code has an appendix written for houses of 400 sq ft or less (Appendix Q, renamed AQ in the 2021 edition), but not every state adopts it, so check before you plan to live in it full time.
Good for
- One or two people living small on their own land
- A ground-floor bedroom, with no loft ladder
- A guest house or rental cabin behind a main home
