About this plan
What the 20×24 Off-Grid Cabin is for.
Twenty feet of width changes the layout options compared to the narrow plans: a bedroom and bath can sit side by side across one end instead of in a line. Floor joists at this span need to be sized carefully, so this is a plan to have a builder or engineer look over before you order lumber.
Seven windows is deliberate. Off-grid, every hour of daylight is an hour you are not running lights off the battery bank, so this plan spreads glass across all four walls.
The crawlspace keeps plumbing and wiring reachable, and the chimney is drawn in for a wood stove as primary or backup heat.
Good for
- Full-time off-grid living for a couple or small family
- A wide floor plan that fits a bedroom beside the living area
- A loft big enough for a second bedroom
