Off-Grid Community

About

Edna Bay is the only populated town on Kosciusko Island and one of the newest cities in Alaska, incorporated in 2014. It has no road connection and no certificated electric utility, so households generate their own power. A small state-owned marina and floatplane dock, both unattended and self-service, are the way in and out. Year-round residents work mostly in fishing and logging, and subsistence hunting, fishing and gathering make up a large share of how people live.
