Port Alexander

Off-Grid Community

About

Port Alexander sits at the southern tip of Baranof Island with no roads in or out and no municipal electricity. Diesel generators run everything, which puts conservation at the center of daily life, and cell service does not reach the village. The 2020 census counted 78 residents, up from 52 in 2010. Boat and floatplane are the only ways to arrive.
