Rural Subdivision

About

Hawaiian Paradise Park (HPP) is a large coastal subdivision in the Puna District of Hawaii Island, established in the late 1950s with about 8,850 lots across roughly 15.3 square miles, served by about 137 miles of private roads. Most residents collect water via rooftop rain catchment into large tanks since county water is minimal; electricity reaches much of the subdivision but thousands of homes rely on catchment and cesspool or septic. The Hawaiian Paradise Park Owners Association levies mandatory road-maintenance assessments; the 2020 population was 14,957.
