About

Wiseman is an off-grid community with no electric utility service, just off mile 189 of the Dalton Highway well north of the Arctic Circle. Wind turbines and solar panels power the cabins, and 29 of those cabins were built between 1905 and 1950 during the Koyukuk gold rush that founded the place in 1908. Rusted mining equipment still lines the streets, and a handful of people live here year round.
